Ariel pulled her dark green pea coat further around her. It was colder then she ever remembered it being in Storybrooke and it was Christmas time. Something she was just learning about this wonderful tradition. It was wonderful she loved all the lights and decorations. The songs everyone was cheerful and happy.
Plus Ariel was excited to buy gifts for everyone though she still had no idea what to get Sheng... it had to be romantic he was not an easy person to shop for. Maybe there was something they could do together she would have suggested a trip but he couldn't leave town. Ariel sighed her breath making a cloud of smoke as she did so.
It began to snow softly it was beautiful Ariel made it to Sheng's just in time. She was going to help him get a tree Ariel spent most of her time with him anyway. She would get a small one for her place but nothing to big. Sheng's place was nicer anyway and they would spend their first Christmas there together.
Ariel smiled just thinking about it, she was in love and it wasn't a one sided painful experience like last time. It was a wonderful new feeling all together. She used her key to get inside his place and hummed as she entered.
"Sheng I'm here are you ready to get a tree and bake cookies? I bought all the stuff?" She took off her coat and boots at the door. shaking snow out of her curly hair. She came into the living room searching for him.

"Will we have time for both?" Sheng peeked his head from around the corner, but stopped short. The white snow in her red hair... He reached out to run his fingers through her hair, watching the show fall from it like stardust. He leaned in to kiss her on the lips.
"I understand that find a tree, bringing it back and 'trimming it' is a day long affair, from what I've heard. Will we have time to make cookies?" Or the energy? Because he fully intended on making love to his mermaid princess at some point this day.

Ariel kissed him back for longer then was needed, her cold arms going around him for a moment.
"We will make time besides I already made the dough so its just rolling them out and cutting them. Sometimes I am very prepared well there are other things I want to do tonight then just bake and decorate." Ariel ran her hand down his chest.
"I'm not in a hurry if the tree gets half trimmed we can decorate the rest later. There may be more important things to do. Oh but I brought a few CD's of Christmas music and a few boxes of decorations. I think we should have a ornament we pick out together for our first Christmas with each other and my first one ever. " Ariel smiled.
She was so happy it was so rare for her to be this giddy though she always was an optimist. "Hmm is there anything I'm forgetting?" She asked going though her chest list in her head.

Sheng pulled on a sweater over his shirt. "I haven't a clue. You are in charge today." He grinned at her. He had experience with Christmas in the past, of his cursed life, but it had always been... superficial. No actual warmth to it. It had just been a plastic tree to put up in the dogo, and then a nuisance to take down once that day had passed.
This meant something to Ariel, so he wanted to make the most of it. For her sake. "And I have the axe!" He produced a very heavy battle-axe. Ariel widened her eyes. "To... cut down the tree? We do that, correct?"

"Well we could but I was thinking we could just buy one. Sheng if you use that on the tree you will dull the blade wont you?" She asked if he left his place with that thing people would be thrown into a panic. Of course she also knew how well he took care of his weapons. "Its a little overwhelming for cutting down a tree..."
"Lets pick it out they will deliver it in a few hours. We can avoid having to try to carry the tree from the woods back here." Ariel giggled he was to cute. She grabbed her purse from the hook and her coat.
"Lets leave the ax for now and go find a perfect tree." He agreed and followed her out into the snow. The tree lot was only a few blocks from his place Ariel put her arm though his and stayed close.
"You know the only time I have ever seen snow was when I ventured into the ice part of the ocean once. It was so far but there were huge ice burgs everything was shinning in the sunlight all the colors in the ocean and more. I went up to the surface and there was snow I was amazed by it. It's very pretty to bad its so cold. As a mermaid it never bothered me at all. We couldn't feel cold since the ocean is usually freezing. Now I think I prefer summer as a human." Ariel told him as they walked down the lit streets of Storybrooke.
She was excited to do something fun with Sheng. She couldn't wait to make a million memories with him.

"Ahl-ah, Ariel." He halted her. "If we are to make this your first time... we shall do this RIGHT. Fruits bloom from labors of the soil and tree. We will cut the tree, we will strap it to the top of my car, and then we will battle to get it up the stairs. That is how I have seen it done in the movies, and we shall do it too!" He grinned proudly and walked over to the door with his axe still in hand.
"We can always try it the easier way next year..." He added.

Ariel smiled, she should have expected a man like Sheng to want to do it the hard way. Still she could think of worse ways to spend the day then watching Sheng cut down a tree. Honestly she wish it was summer and he could do it shirtless... by the sea she was horrible oh he was leaving now.
"You really want to do all that work?" She laughed of course he did, "If we must then we must." She followed him out. Ariel realized he said they could do it differently next year.. next year. She smiled he was planning on next year already she felt that in her heart. She was so lucky she followed him to his car. If this tree thing didn't kill both of them as they tried to get it up stairs well then she looked forward to net year.
"This might be a good time to tell you my sister invited us to dinner at my families house. All my sisters their... human boyfriends, me and you." Ariel said as Sheng started the car.
"My father really hates humans but I am unsure he can stay anything now that his daughters are human. So I don't really know what to expect. Alana and Eric are engaged, Adella is dating a former cricket and I think one of my sisters is seeing a dwarf it should be really fun. So will you come?" She asked Ariel couldn't wait to bring Sheng he would be in her life from now on and she wanted Daddy to like him.

"Tonight?" Sheng blinked. Ariel looked a little hesitant that THAT was his first response. "I mean, of course I will come! I would be honored to meet everyone... and your father. The Sea King." Who hated all humans. "Is that tonight?"

"No its on Christmas day actually you and I have all night tonight Sheng." she smiled.
"Really you will go? Oh good!" She was scared to ask him her father could be well scary actually. "I promise if it terribly awful we can leave early." Ariel looked out the window for a moment the forest was so pretty covered in snow.
Her mind started to drift she still needed to think of the perfect gift for Sheng for Christmas.

"I'm sure it will be fine." He smiled at her. "Are we ready?" He asked. He had put on a few layers of pants under his jeans and a fitted sweater over a couple of shirts. He finished the look off with a bright red scarf around his neck and a laughable hat with furry flaps. Made him look like a dog with down cast ears. He picked up his axe. "Are we ready to brave the woods?"

Ariel wasn't sure she was ready to brave any kind of woods. Her experience with woods was very limited. She didn't expect to be one of type of people who preferred being inside but as a human she rather liked it.
Maybe it was living on a ship all those months but Ariel enjoyed being warm and cozy now. Killian's ship was nice but it lacked the things she enjoyed, hot baths, electricity and heat. Things she missed when she was a mermaid. Still she bundled up the best she could her gloves, scarf and hat. She followed Sheng into the woods.
"Alright Sheng lets do this."

It was funny to watch the mermaid brave the snow. It was more like watching a cat walking in snow: completely out of it's element but curious. Sheng chuckled at her antics and offered his back for her to ride on. She was only too happy to oblige.

Ariel giggled as Sheng let her up on his back. He was warm and way better at walking in the knee deep snow then she was.
"Oh what about that one?" She pointed at a pretty good size tree. "Its a nice size don't you think?" Ariel asked her breath warm in his ear.

"It's is the perfect size!" Sheng responded, but then added: "Unfortunately my apartment is too imperfect a size for it, being much to small." He didn't want her to feel discouraged, so he turned the fault to his apartment. He looked at another tree, which looked rather scraggly, but he smiled. He remembered the Charlie Brown Christmas special that Ariel had rented for them. The tree reminded him of that.
He pointed his ax towards it. "What about that one? Like in Charlie Brown, we could make it beautiful." He looked up at her face against his shoulder. She had a frozen smile on her face, masking disappointment.
That when a large black crow flew out of the scraggly tree at them and up into the sky.
Sheng maneuvered them out of the way in time, but Ariel let out a squeak. What a bad omen. Crows in trees. "Nevermind." Sheng reconsidered.

Ariel jumped slightly at the crow coming out of the little tree, "Perhaps something else?" She suggested as well. "I am sure we will find the perfect tree and even if its small your right we will make it beautiful."
Ariel held on to him glad he was helping her walk in the snow or in this case giving her a ride. She would have been buried in it by now.
"So what about one of those?" Ariel pointed to three trees all ranging in size. "We can pick the best one?" She told him her cold cheek now right next to his.
