"I like that its pretty," Ariel told him. "I would like to learn my sister speaks highly of you Sheng I know you have helped her in ways you might not even know. So you may not be a warrior but I am more then sure your talent has helped many. I would be grateful if you helped me as well." Ariel smiled.
She liked Sheng he was so very different from everyone she had met here so far actually he reminded her a bit of Mulan? Maybe he knew her? She would have to ask him later.

"If you are an eager student, then I will be an eager teacher." Sheng assured her, grinning.
When the food came, she didn't know where to start... he knew that the syrup went on the pancakes.... but he looked over at Ariel to see her buttering her her waffles. He followed suit.
"So tell me more about your life under the sea, měirényú." He said, cutting his pancakes with precision and arranging them on his plate. "You must have many tales to share... about such an exciting world..."

Ariel buttered her waffles, the food here was sinful and she loved it.
"I can assure you I will be an eager student I have never be afraid of learning something new." Ariel poured her syrup on her waffles, almost missing his question no one ever asked her about her life as a mermaid. It didn't often come up.
"Well I guess it was pretty exciting, I was born the youngest of 7 daughters to the king of the Ocean. We had a beautiful kingdom but I was never content to live in it. I wanted the human world I couldn't really explain why it drove me though. We had a lot of fun exploring the ocean and singing. My my sisters and I well lets just say we often got in trouble with our father." Ariel smiled remembering sneaking out of the palace at night with her sisters.
Ariel took a bite of her waffle, "So what about you? What was it like back where your from?"

"Very..." He hesitated. "...Structured and disciplined. The greatest honor was to be a soldier and serve the empire, bring honor upon your household. My father was a general most of his life, so his only son was of course prepped and primed to follow his father's footsteps. I'm afraid I didn't do as well as as he would have hoped for. He is dead." He took a bite of his pancakes as thought that last statement were something as commonplace as talking about weather. It had taken him years to harness the raw hurt emotion he felt at remembering that his father was dead... to a point where it was now a dull pain that he could ignore. Anything else would be to show weakness.
The pancakes were sweet.
"This is good..." He said. Sheng couldn't believe that this wasn't considered a dessert...

"I'm sorry to hear that, I lost my mother when I was young it wasn't until years after I found out what happened to her. Honestly I think it was better when I didn't know." Ariel's voice turned sad as she tried to block out what happened on Blackbeard's ship it was light a nightmare that she couldn't wake up from.
One she would never share with anyone in her family though her father must know. Ariel looked back at Sheng she really shouldn't be dwelling on this now.
"I find the best part about this world is the food actually. So different from the food back home. One does get rather sick of sea weed and fish after a while." Ariel smiled, she liked Sheng he was different in a way Ariel couldn't explain and so serious Ariel wondered if he actually ever had any fun at all.
"So Sheng, what do you do to have fun? Any Hobbies besides your training?" Ariel asked she would be surprised if he actually did anything else.

Hobbies? Fun?
Sheng blinked at her, but then nodded. "In the other world, I would always attend the Cherry Blossom festivals." He said, eyes wandering off as if he could see it before him. "The blossoms would always come back, more beautiful then ever every year... despite war... or sadness." He came back to the diner again. "I would never fail to attend such an event. Unfortunately, there is nothing like that here in Storybrooke."

Ariel liked the look that was in Sheng's eyes as he talked about his past. "Sounds beautiful," She almost wished she could see it.
"We had a few ocean festivals back home. I remember when I was younger they were very exciting." Ariel smiled.

"Oh?" Sheng asked, mid-bite. He was very curious about an ocean festival, if it was anything like the ones from his village. "And what does a mermaid celebrate under the vast ocean?" The pancakes were very... VERY sugary. His stomach gave a slight twinge, but he ignored it, interested in this topic with Ariel.

"Well usually the annual jellyfish festival its rather amazing they come in so many colors. At night the actually light up the ocean a bit so we celebrated that every year with food and singing." Ariel remembered those events well.
"I was a princess so I didn't get out much from the Palace until I was older and could sneak away. I didn't like being there all the time I wanted freedom."

Sheng nodded, understanding. "When the Huns invaded, we were forced to fight for our freedom as well. Or else fall to the sword or became enslaved. Your kindom must be very oppressive to make you feel this way....but I'm sure that you were a shining beacon to your people." He put his fork down. "A leader's greatest honor is living for his... or her.. people. First and foremost."
He smiled at her, thinking that this was something that a soldier and princess could agree on for sure... but the Ocean Princess avoided his gaze. He quickly back-tracked. "I'm sorry... did I say something wrong?"

"No you didn't I just I guess I don't make a very good leader, I left my home because I wanted to. Most of our people would probably say we had a lot of freedom and they would be correct. I always felt trapped maybe it was unfair of me but I wanted this world."
Ariel looked down she hated feeling guilty about this but she did sometimes.
"Sorry, I know I should have been more grateful for what I had I'll never understand why it wasn't enough. Why this life is a curse for others and a dream for me. Maybe I'm just odd?" Ariel had no idea she took a drink of her water and tried to figure out why she was so strange.

Sheng looked down. He didn't quite understand her plight... but she was from a different culture, so he couldn't pass the kind of judgement upon her that he would a soldier... or an emperor from HIS nation. "We... come from different worlds. Mine was very much fight or be conquered. Yours was limiting in its way. Perhaps if the roles were reversed, I would want more then what was presented to me as well?" He offered. He then sighed. "It is not a sin to want to alter your fate. It is brave." He suddenly thought of Mulan for a moment. There was a little bitter sweetness behind the memory of that woman.
Sheng's stomach made a disturbing noise. "....excuse me..." He said, rising from his seat and making his way to the bathroom. The sugar was setting in and he felt like he was going to DIE...
An over-exaggeration... but not by much...

Ariel thought about his words for a moment, brave? No one had ever called her that before. Reckless, thoughtless and selfish yes but never brave. Ariel liked it if she indeed was brave.
She nodded as Sheng got up Ariel hoped he was okay. He was actually very nice to talk to and he found herself actually enjoying this much more then she thought she might. Ariel finished her pancakes and then would probably need to do some kind of exercise so she didn't get fat like so many of the women here talked about all the time. Maybe she would go swimming? There was still a lot about this world Ariel needed to learn but she was more then happy with the progress she had made so far.

Li went to the bathroom to splash some water on his face. His fit stomach was still digesting the sugary meal, not used to such sweetness... He felt awful.
Pancakes were evil...
He was going to have to cut this meal short. He hoped Ariel wouldn't be too offended by his abruptness. He headed back out.
"Ariel, I am very sorry, but I must go... I am not feeling well. I-" His stomach gargled again, nearly doubling him over. "I think... I need... to lay down..." His head was spinning now as well. He took out his keys but he dropped them on the table, his hands were shaking. "I... will see you at next class, yes?" He reached for his keys.

Ariel looked up at him, "Sheng you look really sick at least let me walk you back to the dojo?" Ariel asked he was really shaky.
Ariel stood up and set more then enough money on the table. The dojo wasn't far and she wasn't going to let him drive.
Ariel guided him out of Grannies and down the street. Finally Sheng gave her the keys so she could open the Dojo. Ariel did so, "You need to lie down would a mat work?" She asked, he nodded and Ariel helped him lie down.
"What happened Sheng I didn't think Grannies food was that bad?" Ariel tried to make a joke, "Can I make you some tea?"
